A multifunction decoder can have hundreds, if not thousands of CVs.

Reading or Writing large numbers of Indexed Configuration Variables can be time consuming when using JMRI.

A method of increasing the rate of JMRI's CV read/write operations is to enable the caching of Index CVs for read or write operations. This setting is available on the Preferences Pane.

Enabling caching increases the rate of read/write operations by a factor of almost two.

Another option is to disable the Confirm CV Writes by Read function, also in the preferences.
