Q: Difference between Steal and StealZap

Digitrax's Steal process results in an address under the control of two throttles. This often leads to unexpected events, such as a train suddenly stopping. Unexpected events require identifying the second throttle to release the address. This process can also be done using a Slot Monitor, such as that found in JMRI.

The newer throttles offer StealZap. This allows an operator to select an address on a throttle, which then decouples that address from the previous throttle, resulting in one throttle controlling that address only.

When selecting an address and StealZap appears, this message indicates the command station has another throttle attached to this address.

Q: DCS100 Function Command Issues

Early versions of the Digitrax DCS100 had an issue with functions being reversed: Function Group 2 became Function Group 3 and vice versa.

This is a firmware issue, which could be corrected by returning the command station to Digitrax. Unfortunately, this is no longer an option as the DCS100 has reached End of Life status and parts for repair are no longer available.

Some multifunction decoders corrected this issue using a CV. Due to the age of the DCS100, more recent decoders probably don't offer this option.
